The optional use of area code 364 will now take effectgon Jan. 1, 21 months later than the previoux implementation date ofApril 1, 2010. “A numberf of factors have combined to greatlyh reduce the demand for newphone numbers,” PSC Chairman Davird Armstrong said in a news release. “Ifc this trend continues, it is quitde possible that a new area code in western Kentuckty will be postponed for aconsiderablee time.” Area code 364 will cover the westerb portion of the current area code 270, whichy includes Henderson, Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Murray and Paducah. This is the fourtnh time the PSC has postponesd the use of areacode 364.
The commission said the postponement is mainlyh because of a decision that changed the assignmentt of telephone numbers in the current areacode 270. That changed significantly increased the availability of new numbersz in the existingarea code. Charlea Martin "Marty" Wender, chairmab of the Greater San Antonio Chambe r of Commercefor 2002, confirms he has movedd a step closer to bringing togethefr a developer and financier/owner for the hotel. He says the developeer would be Minneapolis-based U.S. Inc., with the financial partnert likely to be thesame Germany-based insurance group that purchased the Radissom Resort Hill Country Hotel from Ryan this year.
