Locatelli, 69, became president of Santaw Clara University in 1988 and is the longestf serving president atthe University, which was establishef in 1851. Raised in Boulder Creek in the Santa Cruz Locatelli was the first in his family toattenf college. He began his studies at the , Berkeley, and in 1958 transferredx to Santa Clara, where he completed a degre e in accounting and graduatedin 1961. After servin in the U.S. Army, he joined the Societyh of Jesusin 1962. He was ordainede as a priest in 1974.
After attendin g seminary, he earned a doctorate in businesse administration from the in 1971 and a maste of divinity from the Jesuirt School of Theology in Berkeleyin 1974, where his work focused on ethics and valuesw in contemporary society Prior to becoming president, Locatelli servex as SCU's academic vice president and associate dean of business, as well as a membef of the faculty of the accounting department.
