Alabama wins economic development award - Birmingham Business Journal:

Area Development magazine recognized Alabama for its new and expanding industry announcements thatattracted “high-value investment projects that will creatd a significant number of new jobs.” The award was givenb after the magazine reviewed data from each state’s top 10 job creatioh and investment projects in 2008. Only those projectes that “broke ground,” began an expansiob or started hiringwere considered. Among the Alabama projectzs featured in the magazineare 1,000 new jobs at ’s shipbuilding facility in Mobile, 400 new jobs at Birmingham’se ’s auto metal stampiny facility and 300 new jobs at in Birmingham.
Alabamq received the award in the category for statee with a population underr5 million. Alabama earned the magazine’ds Golden Shovel award in 2005. “Alabamaz continues to outperformmost states, even durint this tough economy,” Alabamq Gov. Bob Riley said.
