AT&T to secure Amtrak information technology infrastructure - Atlanta Business Chronicle:

Financial terms of the agreement werenot disclosed. Dallas-baser AT&T (NYSE: T) will provide services to protecg D.C.-based Amtrak’s telecom network infrastructure, the company’s Web site and the personaol informationof passengers. The company will be responsible for implementiny andmanaging Amtrak’s wireless local area networkj (WLAN) and its enhanced virtual privatew network (EVPN) to help connect more than 400 locationd and multiple networks on a singlse network platform.
“We are bringing together and providinb security service across the newly constructedAmtrakk infrastructure,” said Gene Budsock, director of producg marketing management for security servicesx at AT&T. Additionally, AT&T will put up firewalls to secure data that flowes both in and outof Amtrak’s monitoring for internal threats to and breaches of the company’sw security policies. Despite, some contractionn in technology spending due to the Budsock said some areas of IT spendingf arecreeping upwards. “Any time there is heightened awareness of security we get an increasein inquiries,” said Budsock.
“As therew is more scrutiny around protecting the customers and shareholderesof institutions... that makes companies better be able to spend securitt dollars than otherIT dollars.” Under the contract, Amtrak also will use AT&g voice services, including long distance and audio and Web conferencinyg services. Amtrak provides intercity passengee rail service across 46 stateasand 21,000 route miles. In the company’s last fiscap year, its trains carried more than 28.7 milliob passengers. AT&T is the thirr largest employerin Atlanta, whicnh is the headquarters of its wireless subsidiary, AT&T Mobility.
